CubeSpawn 600mm Frame

The 600mm Frame is the basic building block of the CubeSpawn Flexible Manufacturing System.

The "system" consists of cubic aluminum frames based on 300mm increments (for Americans - this is very close to 1 foot)

The frames contain machines executing one step in an industrial process.

Mechanical latches with integrated plugs connect the cubes together, providing a physical, electrical and network connection. A pallet mover in the base of the cube allows for the movement of parts and fixtures through the system.

A series of machines will form an "Assembly Line" to create completed parts

The System is based on  Modular Coordination/Preferred Dimensions (ISO 2848) (wiki - metric foot) to encourage standardised, interchangable open source designs

Using this approach, anyone can create ANY type of design for thier system, and anyone ELSE can rapidly adopt that design into thier own system, making an exchange of digital designs a straightforward, predictable effort.

Modularity, parts reuse, minimal part counts, multipurpose parts and scaleability are all design concepts used in this system to help reduce complexity and redundancy as much as possible.

At the time of this writing (8/1/2011) a 600mm cubic frame will cost approx. $185 for all the aluminum and hardware.
